The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA is available in three trim levels: GLA 250, GLA 35, and GLA 45. In addition to getting up to 34 mpg on the highway, the entry-level GLA 250 model is every bit as powerful with its engine rating at 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The GLA 35 and GLA 45 are certified pulse-quickeners, earning 302 horsepower and 382 horsepower respectively. The BMW X1 does not offer any additional engines beyond the standard 228-hp 2.0L turbocharged inline-4, but it does still offer an extra performance edge over the base-level GLA.
Our comparison shows that the Mercedes-Benz GLA does offer some compelling advantages that buyers might want to consider. In a nutshell, the 2021 GLA has more spacious seating, better gas mileage, and more user-friendly infotainment tech. The BMW X1’s highlights lie more in its handling, smart infotainment features, and spacious cargo area.
